Mark Buchanan, a physicist and Bloomberg View columnist, is the author of the book "Forecast: What Physics, Meteorology and the Natural Sciences Can Teach Us About Economics."
A former editor of Nature and now a columnist for Nature Physics, Buchanan writes about efforts to use physics concepts to understand phenomena in the social sciences and biology. He is also the author of "The Social Atom: Why the Rich Get Richer, Cheaters Get Caught and Your Neighbor Usually Looks Like You" and two other science books. He has a doctorate from the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree in physics and electrical engineering from Lehigh University. He lives in Abbotsbury, U.K.
