Germany defeated current World Cup hosts Brazil 7-1 yesterday, and will face either Argentina or the Netherlands in the final. England exited the competition in the first round without winning a single match.
Munich brewery Paulaner Brauerei GmbH says it sold 9 percent more beer last month than it did in June 2006 when Germany last hosted the World Cup. Sales at U.K. pub chain JD Wetherspoon, meantime, were "mildly negative" during the tournament, tracking "the mood of the country," according to Chairman Tim Martin.
So the Trade of the Day is to buy an exuberant stein of foaming German beer, ignoring the flat, tepid bitter of England.
